Mrs Woodcock’s Maths Talk Homework 18.11.15

Last week we were learning to tell the time and work out time intervals.

If you find telling the time tricky then start by practising this at home – at school we have focussed on o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.

If you can already tell the time confidently, then I would like you to practise working out time intervals (e.g. how many minutes from 10.25pm until 10.50pm?).

You could look at a TV guide and work out how many minutes your favourite TV programmes are on for.

Solve these word problems by finding the start or finish time. Read the question carefully to work out what you need to do. Can you explain how you worked out the answers?

The car alarm went off at 8.20am. It carried on for 30 minutes. When did the car alarm stop?

The children got on the train at 10.30am. The journey took an hour. What time did they arrive?

Mrs Jones watched a film that lasted 2 hours. It finished at 4.20pm. What time did it start?

A bus journey from Birmingham to Malvern took 1 ½ hours. The bus arrived in Malvern at 5.30pm. What times did the bus leave Birmingham?

Challenge: Write some time word problems of your own
