Chawson 1st School Full School Reopening Risk Assessment Version 1

Letter to parents September 2020

Worcestershire Children First are creating a summer holiday plan to promote access to food, activities and support for families. Hungry Families Baked Bean Project is part of this plan!
The project has provided an ingredients list, which can provide five main meals during the week for a family of four. The ingredients on that list can be purchased (online and offline) for under £40 from supermarkets like ALDI, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc.
Alongside the ingredients list, the Adult Learning Team will be providing online cooking classes for parents (which they can do with their children) to talk and guide them through how to prepare the meals for their families. The videos from these classes will also be available on YouTube for parents to access at their leisure.  For parents who successfully complete the classes, there is scope to progress into further family cooking classes, including learning how to cook their favourite take-aways.  This is in addition to broader learning opportunities available via and provided by the Adult Learning Team.

BESTIE is an interactive app developed by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust and designed by local young people, CAMHS clinicians and IT experts – has recently been launched by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust CAMHS.
BESTIE is freely available and can be found by searching for ‘Worcestershire BESTIE’ on Apple and Android phones or tablets. A web-based version is available at http://www.camhsbestie.co.uk
On joining BESTIE, young people, parents and professionals are able to easily access information about local mental health services (including virtual reality tours of Worcestershire CAMHS bases), signposting to local and national services and charities, as well as useful self-help information.
This information is age-rated (so that young people only see information which is appropriate for their age) and favourite self-help information can be saved in a ‘personal space’ on the app, so that it is immediately to hand.
For young people who are seen in CAMHS, additional features will soon be unlocked, including the ability to track their goals, mood and emotion. BESTIE was awarded ‘MidTech Best NHS developed innovation’ at the Meridian Celebration of Innovation Awards.
For more information about BESTIE, please see http://www.camhsbestie.co.uk

South Worcestershire Parenting and Community Development has now become part of the Starting Well Partnership Worcestershire.
Their website is www.startingwellworcs.nhs.uk  where you can request support during the covid19 outbreak and also use the same form to request to join a parenting  group.
While their face to face groups are postponed, they are running some of our groups over Microsoft Teams, so this may be an option that some parents would like.

Pupil premium information:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-online-education-resources
The DfE have brought together a list of online educational resources to support children’s education at home while they may not be attending their normal education setting.
The lists include subject-specific resources for:
  • English
  • maths
  • science
  • PE
  • wellbeing
  • special educational needs and disability (SEND)
These resources are currently being offered for free.
Individual resources cannot replace a school’s properly planned curriculum, and the resources in this list are not intended to do so.  The DfE have assessed these resources with the support of subject experts to make sure they are:
  • high quality
  • appropriate for the students they are aimed at
The resources were also assessed to ensure they meet a number of technical requirements.
The resources may be useful for parents in considering how they could support their children’s education, but they should not be used in place of existing resources which schools may be using as part of their continued provision for pupils’ education at this time.
The DfE have highlighted those materials which are most appropriate for parental use.
This list of resources is not exhaustive and there are many other resources available to schools. This list has been updated since it was originally published to include additional resources suppliers have submitted to us. We will update this list in the future to reflect additional applications from suppliers.

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust have produced a leaflet with information to help direct families, children and young people to services available to support them during this time. Alongside all the services provided by the Trust the leaflet provides a helpful update on some changes that have happened to services recently.

Well being support guide

If your child was in school today (2/6/21) you will not be receiving any more Edenred vouchers from this week as we will be providing sandwiches in school.

From Monday 8th May we will not be using Edenred Vouchers at all.  If you would like to collect a sandwich from school for your child/ren please phone or email school office@chawson.worcs.sch.uk by 12pm Friday 5th May with the heading FSM to make an order for each day.  Sandwiches will be available for collection from the school foyer from 11:30am if you have made an order.

You will be aware that schools are unable to open their doors to more children until they have created a risk assessment.  Please see below for our current risk assessment and documentation.
This is very much a working document which we will continue to modify as we move towards opening, under Government advice, and after opening.  You will see that it includes all of the advice supplied by the Government.
We want you to know that a risk assessment will be in place and that we are confident that all of the work that has been done by so many of the Chawson Team is of a very high standard and will be minimising the risk of the virus for both our children and staff.
